Shirley Hendersons World of Art in Colour Pencil and Watercolour

I produce my art work in my home near Edinkillie in beautiful Morayshire. Though I have had no formal training in art I have loved drawing and painting since I could hold a pencil.

In 2002 I recieved my first commission -of a black cat! I struggled to paint it in watercolour and was failing miserably it was at this time that I discovered the UK Coloured Pencil Society. I realised that Colour Pencil was the medium I needed to use to produce my pet portrait and the cat was completed in a very short time and I became a member of the Society.

In 2002 I attended a Colour Pencilworkshop with Ann Kulberg the amazing American colour pencil artist. From that point on I started to produce people portraits as well.

I exhibit my work with the UKCPS and in 2006 recieved the Chairmans award for my painting 'Resting Place' at Keswick World of Colour Pencil exhibiton. This year 2007 at Keswick I received a Highly Commended Award for my painting Ideal Home.

I now work as a full time artist. I have formed and run an art group in my local community. Every Monday evening at 7.00pm we meet in the Edinkillie Community Hall. Everyone is welcome from beginners to experienced artists and we have a lot of fun. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for art with others. I especially enjoy helping complete starters to get going with art. It is very satisfying to see someone who thought that they had no artistic talent produce a picture that they are proud of. It is often that they did not know how to start and needed help and encouragement along with some useful tips and techniques.
